Yesterday, the last common word I found for the Challenge puzzle was rebate -- but I already had rebaterEmbarrassed  To me, this is a stupid omission. Unfortunately, I tend to find I frequently make such a mistake. Has anyone else this problem? Has anyone overcome this problem? If so, I'd like to see suggestions to at least reduce the number of times I want to kick myself.

T, I think everyone makes mistakes like that.  I often notice (too late, of course) that I've put RATED but forgot RATE, or entered GLOAT but didn't see GOAT, or even found both BACK and LASH but somehow failed to put down BACKLASH.

I don't have any advice, of course, since I'm more hopeless than you in this regard.

I think we all do it, TRex.  Yesterday I had bear but not bearer!  Doh!  Never mind, 'tis just a game! Demon

I miss words like that all the time.  Very irritating, isn't it?

One thing I've learned to do to decrease the number of stupid omissions is to review my list once I've hit a block.  I try to go back and check the adjectives to see if I can make them comparative or superlative.  For verbs, I try to make them past tense or gerunds, or into nouns (make to maker, for instance).  And if I have an extra "re" or "un/in" or "de", I try adding them to the beginning of the words I already have.

But I still miss words all the time.

Ditto on that, always checking rechecking adding prefixes suffixes whatever I can, and I always miss some, frustrating but necessary process, and excellent brain gym.

It is reassuring to learn I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks.

A special thanks to B---y (that's for you, Linda), for her suggestions and to Linda for the reminder that it's only a game. (But I still want to slap myself for obvious misses!)
