I wonder what the world thinks of our politicians. Following scandals which rocked the country over MP's expenses, we now have the wife of a First Minister (that's like the Prime Minister, but in a devolved set-up like Wales, Scotland and as in this case Northern Ireland) who at 59 had an affair with a 19-year-old lad, sorted out a £50k loan for him and did not disclose this information as required of MPs.

Sometimes I am so sad to be British.

SG, I don't think any country has got the worst of politicians. Politicians are bad everywhere. Politics seems to attract the worst of humanity. And the longer they're in office, the worse they get.

Clever subject line.

I think it's dreadful, too. 29 maybe, but 19?

Well, Pat, whatever the age difference, if people want to have an affair that is up to them.  The lad is only 3 years above the legal age of consent. She must have fallen in love with the twinkle in his eye!

Personally I feel they can do what they want.

'It's a little secret, just the Robinsons' affair'!

However, the financial irregularity could bring about their political downfall.

Meanwhile the young entrepreneur will no doubt graduate onto greater things.

I think my comment fell on stony ground, SG, due to there being no tongue-in-cheek emoticon! Perhaps I should have used this one  Tongue. I am of course only envious! Though what on earth would a 59-year-old woman want with a 19-year-old boy once she'd ****** his socks off? To **** them off again, probably!  Cool Wink Shocked

Of course the comment did not fall on stony ground Pat. Given the current freezing weather here in uk, even I would have to keep my socks on!! Grin

You know, I really don't care who gets it on with whom (of legal age and with informed consent), and I don't see why cougars are any more to be blamed than dirty old men, but I really resent politicians who use their power to get around the rules for their friends of whatever degree.

Couldn't the errant wife have just lent the young man the 50 pounds?  or even given it as a gift, making clear it was not a quid pro quo to avoid any question of prostitution?

It was £50, 000  Birdy.... not a mere £50.....not so easy to get a loan these days either....and £50K might have been noticed on a bank statement...

I think that lots of our politicians are just the scum of the earth- lying, cheating etc.. and they always seem to get away with it...
Treason...stick them in the tower and off with their heads...

Yes, it was indeed £50k, and having seen our 'Panorama' programme last night, it looks to me like the money was from folks who stood to benefit from high profile of the lady in question.

My mistake - didn't notice the "K" - can see why she didn't want to pay that much herself.  After all, she's probably not as wealthy as Tiger Woods.
