Happy Waitangi Day!

I know it's a little early on my side of the globe, but it's already Feb. 6 where it's celebrated, so I wanted to get my good wishes in early enough that New Zealanders would still see them!
Have a great time at the celebrations!

Their national holiday! But maybe we don't have active forumites from NZ. Or maybe they're still celebrating.

As soon as I saw the word I knew it had to be NZ related (and could even pronounce it!), but I have to admit I did not know it was their national holiday. Well, I'll be in NZ next Feb 6 so I can see it first hand and there will be (at least temporarily) one forumite in NZ then.

They say ignorance and apathy are the two great evils of modern life. Well, I wouldn't know about that and I don't care anyway.

For what it's worth, Tom, when we were there in 2000, we were advised that some Maori-descended New Zealanders frequently took exception to European-descended New Zealanders taking part in celebrations at Waitangi itself, and it was suggested we go another day. We did, and were lucky enough to see the great war canoe being paddled back to Waitangi the next day from the ferry we were using to get from Pahia to Russell.
But there are celebrations all over the country, so I'm sure you'll find something fun to do.
