Thanks for all that Birdy - there are so many websites to visit!! I wish I had the time to visit them all. I found the little veery delightful.
Our butcher birds are continuing to be very vocal and showing off a great deal. They wake us in the morning with a certain call - before dawn I might add - and continue all day with different melodious warbles. It makes your own heart sing and even the children have noticed their presence.
We are lucky to have a large garden and get many species of bird visiting each day

Isn't it great what you can find on the 'net?  Just type in something and get much more information that you could ever read, or watch, or listen to!

That's because you spelled "colorful" wrong (you poor Brit, you).  If you spelled it correctly, you would have found sites like this:

I think it was T's sense of humour, birdy (her spelling of colourful was correct by the way!).  Demon

Out of curiosity I googled what T did and got... pages of colourful feathered birds!

You Brits are wasting our world's resources by keeping those useless u spellings.  Don't you know that every time you write a word with an excess u, you are wasting ink and killing yet another tree because of the extra space needed to print the word on paper?  Pretty soon there won't be any place for the birds to perch, all because of your useful habits!  We advocates of simplified spelling were unknowingly in the forefront of environmentalism when we dropped the extra l from traveling and the e from judgment.

However, the statements above should not be seen as an endorsement of texting. Grin Grin

Birdy, your reply reminded me of something. It should really be posted in the humorous thread but I'll put it here as it relates to what you said:

English: The Official Language

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German (which was the other possibility). As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English."

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f." This will make words like fotograf 20 per sent shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the fourth yer peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl. Zen ve vil rul ze world!!
