Seems like I might have lots of opportunity to check in today since I'm snowbound for a second day.  That's not quite accurate - yesterday I was slushbound - as the snow came down, it turned to slush on the streets and sidewalks.  But the temperature went down a few degrees last night and now we have snow.  I woke up at 6 a.m. when it should be very dark.  The reflections from the street lights on the snow made it very bright.  There was absolutely no traffic, foot or vehicle, but there were two little grooves from the steps across the street to the garbage piled at the curb/kerb.  Even though the garbage was almost covered by snow, the local rodents were busy, and had dug down through the snow to their dinner, after making their paths.

Schools are closed, libraries are open, there is almost no traffic on the street even now (10:30).  A few people walking, a vehicle once in a while - that's it.  A snowplow just went through, and the middle of the street is clear, but it's one lane.

So it seems like a good day to stay in and do my taxes  Embarrassed

Not sure - right now we have sun because we're in the eye of the storm - very unusual for a winter storm!  We may get a few more flurries and snow showers through tomorrow, but the worst of it is past in the city.  From my window, I can see clear sidewalks where they've been shoveled, and the middle of the street is clear where it's been plowed.  But the sides of the street, where a few cars were parked, and the street side of the sidewalks where the snow was shoveled, are quite deep. There's a lot more north and west of the city - almost 3 feet, I think.

Just looked out the window anad here come the dark clouds again - am going to run out and do my errands before it starts.

And sure enough I got caught in the next band of snow.  I went for a walk to take some photos, and was looking across the river at Manhattan when the snow squall came through - total whiteout - couldn't even see any of the skyline.  It only lasted a short time.

When I listened to the weather report, I heard that we had 21 inches of snow in Central Park - not nearly as much as the 32 inches in parts of NJ and other parts of NY.  But it's enough to make a mess.  As you said, a lot of people have lost electricity - luckily that hasn't happened here.

21 inches in Manhattan? The Rogue Daughter who lives there should be quite happy then. She likes the snow and expressed envy when we had  so much here at Inside the Beltway. We were housebound for a week.

T, did you get any of the big snow that dumped on England around New Year's? My co-worker's English mother-in-law from Sussex had to postpone her return trip from a Christmas visit because conditions there were so difficult.

RM...we were the only place in the whole of the country to have NONE.......and i mean NONE.....[well..all bar the 347 flakes that fell on the whole of Weymouth and Portland.

Birdy sent me a fab satellite picture, from the BBC i think....that showed a completely white UK, the only green spot was where i live.

The girls were well annoyed [cos they thought if it snowed i would let them out of the shed], cos every other school was shut down, some for weeks, and they missed not a single lesson.
I was annoyed, because although i hate the stuff, was looking forward to a few freeby duvet-days off from work...

All very frostrating....ha ha ha!!!

Housebound for a week sounds good to me....

Being housebound for a week wasn't too awful. We knew the magnitude of the coming storm and prepared accordingly. RF and I didn't get on each other's nerves. The main hitch was that I had my laptop from the office, so I worked from home very diligently. Not too bad, except that I missed the camaraderie of my office mates. The Rogue Daughter who lives about 5 miles away reported that she had cabin fever big time -- she's much more of a social creature than her parents.

We could have given you a flake or two, T!  We had LOTS of it this year and even managed a white Christmas, which was very festive!
