A bird in the hand...and all that... Very pretty...we don't have very many exotic colours like that in our local birdlife... Sparrows are pretty boring really...as are crows and ravens and seagulls.... Shame really...

T, seeing as how you live near the ocean, don't you have little peepy things like sandpipers? They aren't very colorful, but we love to see them when we go down by the shore.

No RM we don't....just bloody great ugly noisy shitehawks [seagulls to the unpooped on..]
On the nearby lake we have swans, a variety of ducks, cormorants, visiting barnacle geese and bloody seagulls...
In the garden we get Robins, sparrows, a variety of tits [stop sniggering!!], blackbirds, thrushes and bloody seagulls....
No sandpipers though...

A pity. They are so cute when they run back and forth chasing the incoming and outgoing water to pick at whatever is being turned over in the sand. We get gulls inland, too, but for some silly reason we still call them seagulls, not landgulls.

Why do seagulls fly over the sea? Because if they flew over the bay they would be bagels!! I love that joke...it's my daughter's favourite...

There is an old Australian joke about why seagulls fly upside down over New Zealand, but I'm not sure if I should tell it......

Sorry dears....it's only a week since I mentioned it....have you been waiting? Not worth it, I assure you, but here goes.....
Why do birds fly upside down over New Zealand ? (or Australia or Ireland or Corfu or anywhere else) Because it's not worth crapping on !
(you were warned!)

Over here, the punch-line would probably be New Jersey!
