I don't think I do believe it, birdy. I remember seeing a programme on TV some time ago about elephants that were supposed to be able to paint. They could certainly take hold of a brush and apply paint to a sheet of paper but the 'designs' were purely random.
I reckon this is a clever bit of trickery. Yeah, yeah, call me cynical...

Well if it IS true, all I can say is that some people have too much time on their hands! Mind you, I'm probably jealous because I couldn't draw a better picture of an elephant than that!

We all have our talents! But you know, I've been in beginning art classes (mostly for nature journaling), and I think a lot of people probably could draw better than they think. They get frozen by the thought of making an error, so they're afraid to put pen/pencil/charcoal/paintbrush/marker to paper. The teacher in those classes usually started out by having them do a series of exercises designed to loosen them up. They probably would never be Rembrandt, but what the heck, who wants to be Rembrandt? He's dead! But if they could draw enough to be able to recognize what they've put on paper, it's good enough - it could be an abstract elephant, for instance, in colors they like. Who cares what other people think if you enjoy the results yourself? On the other hand, some of us really can't sing, and no amount of training will overcome that. That doesn't stop me from singing in the shower, but I wouldn't inflict my voice on anyone else. But with drawing, you can put the paper away and no one has to look at it. And in worse case scenario, paper is recyclable.

I just got this site in an email - front pages of newspapers around the world! I suspect that once you know the name of a newspaper, you could google it and get the website of the paper itself for the full version for a lot of them. Rather than rewrite the email, I've just copied and pasted it. One of the most interesting sites I have ever seen. Just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up... Double click and the page gets larger.... I thought you all would like to know about this site, if you don't already. I also found you can read the entire paper on some if you click on the right place. You can spend forever here.

Also, if you look at the European papers, the far left side of Germany will pop up as The Stars & Stripes (European edition, of course). AND, this site changes everyday with the publication of new editions of the paper. Hope you enjoy this..

Another wonderful time-waster! I shall immediately inform people on my other forum of this wonderful site. A lot of them are artistic, so they'll probably like it.
Uh, what's a herbert?

If you've never heard of the Georgia Guidestones, here's some information, at: http://www.crystalinks.com/gaguidestones.htmlAccompanying it is a link to a video that explains one viewpoint about they are. This is a negatively-biased view, but there is plenty enough other information about them elsewhere (such as the June 2009 issue of "Wired" magazine). Conspiracy theories abound, but the story of the stones, and the mystery they represent, is truly fascinating. Check it out!! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3490568771316655904&ei=gVQ1SrmnJ4_qqgKBh8TdCQ&q=Georgia+Guidestones&hl=en

It's quite mysterious, rare and bizarre, but does not seem to have the alien factor of the crop circles.

This thread has been neglected for much too long! This is a great animation - got it from the Kim Komando site. It features a rock pigeon but is not a birding film. About 6 minutes long and worth it. http://videos.komando.com/2009/11/18/pigeon-impossible/

I have just spent several hours browsing through various links from this thread and wanted to repay you all by adding a bulk of my own favourite links, I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed yours. GENERALLY COOL: http://www.neatorama.com/ - my all time favourite site and one I check everyday. Heaps of very different articles and stories, from the humorous to the inspiring. http://itmademyday.com/ - it made my day always provides provides a smile for me. ARTSY: http://www.worth1000.com/galleries - surprisingly few people know of this site, but it is almost always where those fabulous fake pictures come from http://www.deviantart.com/ - something for everyones taste here I think GAMES: http://www.conceptispuzzles.com/index.aspx - logic games, including several pictograph games http://www.playbabble.com/ - my other daily word puzzle, I love this version of boggle because it has a large base of letters, but also allows 24 hours to complete. The chat also helps with other players willing to provide clues for words. http://www.isketch.net/i2.html - basically online pictionary, I have found most of the other players are quite patient and generous with my sub-standard drawings http://armorgames.com/play/2205/light-bot - a cute little puzzle with a tiny robot awaiting instructions to complete his task. I will leave it at that for now, but will post some more at a future time.
